FAQ

Will my doula provide any medical or clinical services?

The short answer - Nope! Trust me when I say that asking me to perform cervical checks will do neither of us any good! I am trained and experienced in childbirth, but I provide no clinical or medical services. I don’t prescribe, diagnose or treat. I’ll also never contradict your caregivers orders or advice.

Will my doula remain with me for the duration of my birth?

Once you call me to say the party has started I will be by your side until that sweet little bundle is in your arms. Aside from calling in help from my amazing backup doula in extreme circumstances, Ill be by your side all the way, so you don’t need to worry that you’ll be abandoned before the grand finale!

My birth partner is incredibly supportive and will be with me every step of the way. So what do I need a doula for?

A doula is able to offer an objective viewpoint for both yourself and your birth partner. This can be imperative for upholding and honouring your original birth preferences. Offering my support and reassurance to your partner can often result in less emotional pressure for you to veer from your preferences, as your partner is reminded of the natural process of birth and is kept calm in a high stress environment of which they might have little prior experience.

Is my doula officially certified?

I sure am!! I am a fully certified birth doula through the highly acclaimed and internationally recognised body, DONA international.

Will my friends find out details of the birth?

Mama, we may likely run in the same social circles in Summit County, but what goes on in the birthing room stays in the birthing room! Between mom groups, lactation services, birthing classes etc etc we’re bound to cross paths and hopefully share a celebratory glass of wine (or three!) after your birth, but you can rest assured that for me, client confidentiality is imperative! All anybody will know is what they do already, that you are a rockstar superhuman birthing goddess who grew and birthed a beautiful baby!! I will hold in strictest confidence all information obtained in the course of my professional services to you, both in social settings and on social media.

Does the price change at all if I have a fast labour?

The short answer - no. I am dedicated to being available to you day and night from weeks 38 - 42 of your pregnancy. That’s four weeks of being on call, which means making sure I have emergency cover for my own babies at the drop of a hat. At the point of signing our contract I pay out of pocket for my backup doula to be on call for you in the event of an emergency. Being on call means that for four weeks I likely won’t leave Summit county, go on a hike, have an alcoholic drink, or be away from my cell phone. I accept that I may miss important events, birthdays etc in my private life. So honestly, helping bring your beautiful baby into the world is simply a wonderful added bonus for me, and is not really a complete picture of what my compensation covers.
